Since the era when the kings and queens of 19th century Europe vacationed in this privileged holiday resort, the town of Biarritz has enjoyed an international reputation. If you have time for a walk, you can discover the various parts of the town. Its villas and houses, remarkable for their architecture, stand as witnesses to that age of splendour.
Nowadays it is the surfers, golfers and rugby players from the Club Le Biarritz Olympique who contribute to the image of a dynamic and sporty town known throughout the world. Every year bathers appreciate the quality and charm of its five monitored beaches and the generous sea means you can also enjoy its benefits in the numerous sea water treatment spas.
Biarritz is a fully-fledged resort, the town offers a wide range of cultural and sporting activities for children and adults. The Royal, its art and experimental cinema, its art galleries and temporary exhibition sites, and its dance or cinema festivals, offer a major programme of entertainment throughout the year. It has many, wide-ranging shops and boutiques, from the world’s major brands to the artisan chocolate maker, and including open-air markets, the covered market, fine delicatessens and Basque linen stores... among others.
The town is very well served by air and by the TGV, and is the ideal base for discovering the Basque Coast and the picturesque villages of the Basque Country Hinterland
